"Before I did not know what else I should do. Being an artist whose has many years of experience, I will not let time pass.
Leang Seckon was born in 1974 in Prey Veng province. He studied plastic arts from 92 to 97 and design from 97 to 2002 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. Seckon already showed with great success his illustration work (Cambodia Daily), his paintings and sculptures in Cambodia and in the United States. (Java Café, French Cultural center, Alabama)
During his design studies at the Fine Arts he developed his taste for new materials. Chris Lawson, with whom he worked, encouraged him to develop his own "mixed media style". Hence he rediscovered his roots: his childhood as a "buffalo boy"; the legends told by his father, the Chinese and Khmer mythologies, the phantoms of the forest, his Mekong adventures, the puppets he created for his friends, his remembrance of family life.
His paintings are constructed in a detailed and skilful manner. They are as refined as a Buddhist mural painting. But inside this traditionally looking frame Seckon surprises us with a hanging thread from his tailor aunt, or a hidden brush stroke, bright and free. Through his Art Seckon grew to be the creative and spontaneous child he was in Prey Veng.
